Gami (King St)

Gami is famous (some would say infamous) for what is arguably the best Fried Chicken in Melbourne. Forget Kentuky Fried Chicken. Korean Fried Chicken removes the Colonel's pants and spanks him. (Too graphic?)

Having randomly stumbled upon Gami a couple of years ago, I never seemed to find the right moment to post a blog about it. But then a wonderful thing happened, they opened a new restaurant on King St (there are three now).

So after work one week night, Dan and I headed down those unassuming steps to what is a cute albeit simple restaurant.

You don't go to Gami for the atmospherics, but the King St restaurants is markedly more visually appealing than it's sister restaurants.

This, however, does not mean that the chicken is any different - you get the same great tasting chicken.

I'm not sure if it is because we order without looking at the menu or whether it really is new, but something else that was new to Dan and I was the boneless chicken.

Great tasting Fried Chicken without those pesky bones in the way? Yes please!

And of course we ordered this with an obligatory jug of Gami's house beer and a Kimchi pancake (gotta have a vegetable thrown in there somewhere).

Dan fell in love with the orange dipping sauce

Gami is the perfect guilty pleasure. While there is no way I could eat this food on a regular basis, it is delicious chicken. And though it's fried, it doesn't feel nearly as greasy or artery clogging as the alternatives (e.g., KFC), so you can genuinely enjoy it.

PS. Gami also home deliver to Melbourne CBD, Southbank, South Melbourne and Carlton. I no longer live in this area, but the service was always fantastic (and the chicken is just as good).
